EAGAN, Minn - In their first meeting in the South Suburban Conference the Lakeville South Cougars and Eagan Wildcats renewed an old rivalry. The teams that had played to an overtime thriller and late one-point game the last two years picked up where they left off.
After trading touchdowns in the first half, Lakeville South took a 14-7 lead into the locker room. A scoreless 3rd quarter left the Eagan faithful a little edgy, but strong play early in the 4th by senior QB Jameson Parsons and two interceptions by the defense saw the home team take itâ’’s only lead of the game 20-14 with just under nine minutes to play.
The final nine minutes, however, belonged to the visiting Cougars. Two short touchdown runs from junior QB Mitch Leidner sealed the victory for Lakeville South. Leidner, in his first varsity start, ran for three scores and threw for a fourth to lead Lakeville South. He finished 28 for 42 and a whopping 303 yards through the air. Devon Bzoskie was on the receiving end a team high 11 times for 97 yards.
Next week, Lakeville South hosts Wayzata while Eagan travels to Bloomington to take on the Eagles of Kennedy.
