Strong Third Period Propells Minnetonka Over Warroad

Skippers win third straight

MINNETONKA, Minn - The two defending state champions in Minnesota high school hockey took to the ice Friday night as Warroad traveled to Minnetonka to battle the Skippers. In what was a highliy entertaining hockey game, it was the Skippers who came out on top 3-2 following a strong third period.

The Warriors scored first when junior Sierra Hanowski walked into the Warrior offensive zone and fired a puck that beat goalie Sidney Rossman stick side.The Skippers answered back when Kira van Steinbergs corralled a loose puck along the boards and fired a shot beating goalie Dayton Hilgert.

The second period would provide much of the same. Both teams scored a goal, but it was the home Skippers that struck first. Lisa Marvin answered for the Warriors sending the game into the third period tied at two goals a piece.

The third period proved to be the strongest for the Skippers as they dominated play in both ends, outshooting the Warriors 12-6. Amy Peterson continued to score big goals in big games as she tallied at the midway point of the third for the game winner.

With the win, the Skippers upped their record to 3-1, and will battle Roseau and Hill-Murray in their next two games.

The Warriors drop to 1-1 with the loss and will continue their road trip tomorrow afternoon against North Wright County at 1PM.
