HOPKINS, Minn - Football players from across the metro converged on Hopkins Tuesday night for the first night of the Hopkins Passing League. Quarterbacks, running backs and receivers go seven on seven against linebackers and defensive backs in a series of games. Teams from Stillwater, Wayzata, Edina, Robbinsdale Cooper, Osseo, DeLaSalle and host Hopkins work out the kinks of their passing offenses playing two games each Tuesday night.
The league which allows passing games to develop with more repetitions and gives quarterbacks the opportunity to get on the same page with receivers. It also allows head coaches to scout potential competition come fall. Although there are no helmets or pads, and tackling is not part of the game, there is still the competitive part of the game.
“I hate losing,” said Osseo receiver Jameer Jackson following the loss to Edina. “I wish we could put pads on and play for real.”
That piece will come soon enough.
