ST. PAUL, Minn—The girls class A championship game between #1 Warroad and #2 Breck tomorrow afternoon will be settled on the ice at Xcel Energy Center. If there needed to be a sub plot to the game, the coaches might have fueled the flames a bit more.
My FOX Hockey.com’s Doug Erlien asked Breck coach Lenny Vannelli about the potential matchup with powerhouse Warroad.
“We’re going to respect their skill, and we know they have some depth in net and again, if they can match our skating skills it is going to be an awesome championship game,” said Vannelli.
Following the Warriors 10-0 thrashing of Alexandria to set the matchup, Warroad coach David Marvin was asked for his comments about Vannelli’s statement.
“Really? Okay, I’m not going to give you anything that juicy,” said Marvin. “I hope we can match their skating. You can tell coach Vannelli that. Milli Vanilli or whatever his name is.”
It gave for some excellent bulletin board material and additional hype to a game that features two of the top teams in the state of Minnesota in the girls’ game.
