MINNEAPOLIS, Minn—Chaska took a four point lead to the locker room in their quarterfinal round matchup against Saint Francis. They knew the effort in the first half wasn’t going to be enough if they wanted to continue their run in the post season.
“The difference was free-throws,” said senior guard Brook Brown. “Our coach came in at halftime and told us they were 11-14 from the line. In the second half they only had four.”
Brown was the story in the second half as she took over. The senior scored 12 points when it mattered most for the Hawks in the second half and totaled 20 for the game. The Hawks also had a solid game from Ellen Degler, as the senior scored 19 in the win.
The lead stretched from four to fourteen as the Hawks opened the second half on a 15-6 run. The lead stretched to as many as 23 points late in the second half. All five starters scored in double digits for head coach Tara Siefert’s team with Brown and Degler leading the way.
With the win, the Hawks will take on top seed Lakeville North tomorrow night at 6pm. It is a rematch of a 67-50 loss early in February.
