MINNEAPOLIS, Minn—The Cinderella like post season run of the Wayzata Trojans came to an end on Thursday night on the Target Center floor with a 58-45 loss at the hands of White Bear Lake.

The Bears used a physical brand of basketball to keep the Trojans at bay and end their championship dreams. As was the case in their quarterfinal game, the duo of Julia Dysthe and Alexis Foley led the way for the Bears with 20 and 17 points. Foley added 11 rebounds for the double-double in the win.

The Trojans used a packed in zone defense and hot shooting from three to upend #2 seeded Maple Grove in the quarterfinals. They couldn’t find the range Thursday as they 2 for 15 from beyond the arch and just 33 percent from the field in the loss. The stat sheet at halftime looked like a mirror image to the Maple Grove game where the Trojans found themselves down double digits to the Crimson before battling their way back in the second half.

”We told our kids that at halftime,” said Wayzata coach Mike Schumacher. “They needed to believe they could come back, they did yesterday.”

Unfortunately, the Bears played the second half just as they had the first and stretched the lead to as many as 20 points with 13:39 remaining in the second half. Wayzata whittled the lead down to 12 with 9:35 left but could crawl no closer.

The Bears, making their second consecutive state tournament appearance are in search of their first state championship in school history and will take on number one overall seed Lakeville North on Saturday night at 8pm.

With the loss, the Trojans will play in the third place game on Saturday.
